Caralee McKinney
OWNER & LEAD DESIGNER
As the owner and lead designer of Spruced Kitchens, my passion for transforming spaces has been a lifelong pursuit. What began as a love for DIY—painting, wallpapering, and refinishing furniture—quickly evolved into full-scale renovations. I’ve always been drawn to the puzzle-solving aspect of design, where function and beauty must work in harmony, and no space presents a more rewarding challenge than the kitchen.
Before founding Spruced Kitchens in 2018, I spent years honing my skills through hands-on experience, studying design, and working in construction consulting and material selection. Each project deepened my understanding of how thoughtful design can enhance daily life.
I believe great design is about balance—blending beautiful materials and color to bring warmth and cohesion to a home.
Nelson provides the perfect backdrop for my passion. With its wealth of stunning historic homes, I get to bring modern function to classic spaces while preserving their charm. I find immense joy in reimagining kitchens and bathrooms, blending old with new, and creating thoughtful, intentional designs that feel just right for each homeowner.
Carolyn Campos
KITCHEN & BATH
DESIGN
Carolyn brings a unique vision to every space, elevating the Spruced Kitchens experience with warmth and a welcoming presence that inspires our clients.
Her design journey began with a specialization in women’s action sports apparel, including over a decade at Volcom and five years with Troy Lee Designs. Her technical expertise in apparel became the foundation of a passion for architecture and building materials, sparked while designing her own home in 2020. Carolyn effortlessly bridges her background in textiles to the world of architecture and surfaces, crafting spaces that reflect her love for beautiful materials and commitment to quality.
Guided by her international travels—particularly her journeys to Japan—Carolyn’s design philosophy is deeply inspired by the harmony and precision found in Japanese design.

Carly Sparks
OFFICE HARMONY SPECIALIST
With a background in small business ownership and experience across local government and large organizations, Carly brings a thoughtful balance of organization, creativity, and people-first thinking to Spruced Kitchens.
Her appreciation for well-designed homes and intentional process first led her to the company as a client, where she connected deeply with the team’s values, attention to detail, and collaborative approach.
As our Office Harmony Specialist, Carly supports every stage of the client journey—ensuring systems run smoothly, communication is clear, and the studio environment feels calm, welcoming, and well cared for.

Heather Paterson
OPERATIONS
COORDINATOR
Heather brings an innovative, process-driven vision to every project, blending creative artistry with operational expertise shaped by more than two decades of entrepreneurial experience.
Her design journey began with a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Manitoba, where she specialized in landscape architecture before expanding into property development, branding, and interior design. Over the past 20 years, Heather has seamlessly integrated technical skill with creative passion—guiding projects from early concept development through execution.
Grounded in collaboration and a deep attention to detail, her approach transforms complex challenges into thoughtful, functional, and beautiful outcomes. Heather’s lifelong passion for art, architecture, and design excellence elevates both the client experience and the creative process at Spruced Kitchens.
Brooke Riome
FINISHING CARPENTER & INSTALLER
Brooke is nothing short of an artist, seamlessly transforming all of our dreamy designs into perfectly fit and finished spaces.
After training under a Red Seal master carpenter for over a decade, Brooke began his own business specializing in kitchens and interior finishing carpentry. A self-proclaimed ‘brutal perfectionist’, he takes a time-honoured traditional approach to carpentry with a focus on immaculate detail, longevity and functionality.
Not only is Brooke an artful and accomplished craftsman, he’s also tidy and respectful on the job site—and just about the kindest human to be around.
